It is a very known fact that the coins or the paper notes in Nepal were issued only with the pictures of the leaders/ king during the time of monarchy. After the end of monarchy Nepal Government introduced new notes having the pictures of national emblems which was a great change. We people have never expected that there will be the coins/ paper notes that could be depicted with the pictures of general public or other national figures. Today we all the citizens of Nepal are very surprised to see the three types of coins depicting an image of prominent literary figure and culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi have been minted.
Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada launched the coins amid on event organized by the Lalitpur Metropolitan City coinciding with the birth anniversary of Joshi. The coins with the denomination of Rs, 2500 and Rs. 1000 are made completely form silver and Rs. 100 denomination coins are made from the mixture of silver abd copper.
The total 25,000 coins with the denomination of Rs. 2500 have been minted. Similarly 25000 coins with the denomination of Rs 1000 and 10,000 coins with denomination of Rs. 100 have been minted, according to the metropolis Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan.
The Currency Management Department Mints Division of the Nepal Rastra Bank minted the coins. These are the commemorative coins and the metropolis has a plan to promote the coins across the country. It is also said that the coins would be made available to general people.
This is a very popular as well as motivational action done from the side of government. The person who has already lived for a century and has been sacrificing his life in the field of literature and culture is well recognized at a national level. Through this we wish him congratulations and pray for long life.
